Topologically Nontrivial Sectors of the Maxwell Field Theory on Algebraic Curves

چکیده

In this paper the Maxwell field theory is considered on the Zn symmetric algebraic curves. As a first result, a large family of nondegenerate metrics is derived for general curves. This allows to treat many differential equations arising in quantum mechanics and field theory on Riemann surfaces as differential equations on the complex sphere. The examples of the scalar fields and of an electron immersed in a constant magnetic field will be briefly investigated. Finally, the case of the Maxwell equations on curves with Zn group of automorphisms is studied in details. These curves are particularly important because they cover the entire moduli space spanned by the Riemann surfaces of genus g ≤ 2. The solutions of these equations corresponding to nontrivial values of the first Chern class are explicitly constructed. †Laboratoire associé No. 280 au CNRS

Topologically Nontrivial Sectors of Maxwell Field Theory on Riemann Surfaces

In this paper the Maxwell field theory is considered on a closed and orientable Riemann surface of genus h > 1. The solutions of the Maxwell equations corresponding to nontrivial values of the first Chern class are explicitly constructed for any metric in terms of the prime form.

Black holes in the Brans-Dicke-Maxwell theory

The black hole solutions in the higher dimensional BransDicke-Maxwell theory are investigated. We find that the presence of the nontrivial scalar field depends on the spacetime dimensions (D). WhenD = 4, the solution corresponds to the Reissner-Nordström black hole with a constant scalar field. In higher dimensions (D > 4), one finds the charged black hole solutions with the nontrivial scalar f...

Quantization and superselection sectors iii: Multiply connected spaces and indistinguishable particles

We reconsider the (non-relativistic) quantum theory of indistinguishable particles on the basis of Rieffel’s notion of C*-algebraic (‘strict’) deformation quantization. Using this formalism, we relate the operator approach of Messiah and Greenberg (1964) to the configuration space approach due to Laidlaw and DeWitt (1971), Leinaas and Myrheim (1977), and others. In the former, the algebra of ob...

Are There Topologically Charged States Associated with Quantum Electrodynamics ?

We present a formulation of Quantum Electrodynamics in terms of an antisymmetric tensor gauge field. In this formulation the topo-logical current of this field appears as a source for the electromagnetic field and the topological charge therefore acts physically as an electric charge. The charged states of QED lie in the sector where the topological charge is identical to the matter charge. The...

Equivalence Classes for Gauge Theories

– In this paper we go deep into the connection between duality and fields redefinition for general bilinear models involving the 1-form gauge field A. A duality operator is fixed based on ”gauge embedding” procedure. Dual models are shown to fit in equivalence classes of models with the same fields redefinitions. Beside the importance of duality in understanding various non-perturbative aspects...
